Rangers Qualify for Nationals

ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 29, 2014) - The US Youth Soccer National League Boys teams competing this weekend wrapped up their 2014-15 seasons on Monday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., as they played alongside the Disney Soccer Showcase. The U16 Boys Rangers represented SDFC at the top club event in the country.

National League teams earn their place in the league based on a proven track record of success in US Youth Soccer regional and national competitions and are among the nation's best. Competing for a league title and a spot in the US Youth Soccer National Championships, each and every game will play into who represents the National League this summer in Tulsa, Okla.

After a mid-table finish a year ago, SDFC Rangers (NJ) compiled a 5-0-2 record in its 2014-15 campaign to secure a top-two finish in the Under-16 Blue Division. SDFC coach Kieran Patrick said getting to the National Championships has been a goal his team has been building toward for a long time, and they’re thrilled to accomplish it.  The tally of 17 points has the Rangers currently sitting atop of their division, but most importantly earned them a spot in the National Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma in July of 2015.

“The opportunity to play in the National League — it was a great experience for us last year and thankfully we got invited back this year,” Patrick said. “We managed to do ourselves a lot more justice than we did last year. The boys have improved from the experience and it’s a huge step on the path that we want to take these boys in terms of getting them recognized for college. This is a huge step for the team and for the club as a whole as it puts them in contention for the National Championship.”

Manhattan College Assistant Coach, Gary Adair who has just joined the coaching staff for Rangers , recognizes the importance of these events in terms of the college recruitment, "College coaches want to see the best players, play in the best events, against the best opposition.  U16 is pivotal age in order to be recognized early in the recruiting process.  The success achieved up to this point has positioned the group perfectly, ensuring they are showcased in front of the country's top college programs moving forward."
